Retreat, reflect, write, resist
Join Laura Fraser for a week of inspiration, mentoring, and focused time for your writing. We will stay at the historic Mabel Dodge Luhan House in the magicial town of Taos, New Mexico.:http://mabeldodgeluhan.com/.
I found that the sunshine in New Mexico could do almost anything with one: make one feel well if one felt ill, or change a dark mood and lighten it. It entered into one’s deepest places and melted the thick, slow densities. It made one feel good. That is, alive.”
–Mabel Dodge Luhan
During challenging times, it’s important to write and reflect, bring our ideas to light, and let our voices be heard. Whether you are working on personal essay, memoir, a non-fiction book, or are seeking the time and space to be creative and collect your thoughts on paper, this week will give you the peace and guidance to move forward with your writing. We’ll have writing classes, individual mentoring sessions, and plenty of time to write.
Mabel Dodge Luhan was a writer, feminist, art patron, and adventurer. Let her spirit of humanity, rebellion, and art fill you while you enjoy the vast vistas of the New Mexico landscape. Make new friends, and share your ideas and writing with them over receptions, dinners, a cocktail party, and a relaxing afternoon at Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. Celebrate at the end of the week by reading your work to each other.
Mabel Dodge was a prominent figure in the arts and society of New York City and Europe who left New York to settle in Taos, marrying a Taos Pueblo man by the name of Tony Luhan, the 1930s. D. H. Lawrence, Georgia O’Keeffe, Willa Cather, Ansel Adams and others found inspiration that would shape their lives’ work while visiting Tony and Mabel’s home. And you will too!
Plan, start, work on, or finish your personal essays, memoir, book proposal, or any other non-fiction project. Give yourself the gift of time for your writing, with expert feedback. Luxuriate in long stretches of luscious time for writing, thinking, and dreaming. Focus your time and creative attention to your writing project, while living in an environment bathed in beauty, tailored to give you generous time and an embracing space to work, and in the fun, wise and supportive company of Laura Fraser and your peers.
Our Taos writing retreat is designed for writers who are currently working on a non-fiction project. Limited to 12 participants, the retreat offers individual attention and support, as well as a stimulating, insightful environment. You’ll have time to explore Taos and its crafts and museums on your own as well.
You will write and write and write, eat divine food prepared for you, walk and rest….stretch….have inspiring, invigorating classes, meet privately with Laura to discuss anything coming up on your project, go on a gorgeous adventure to a famous Hot Springs and Spa, and explore Taos and its environs on your own. Go home with pages and pages, rested, jazzed, inspired, and with a clear direction for your future writing.
Chef and travel organizer Kris Rudolph will insure that you have a delicious time, and she’ll take care of all the travel details. To book the retreat, contact Kris at firstname.lastname@example.org.
